The Starlost Earthship Ark Reboot Concept Design 3D Model Study
Generational Colony Vehicle from 1970’s Science Fiction Television Series
This is a re-imagining of the filming miniature; a re-design exercise of The Starlost Earthship Ark for a hypothetical reboot of the ambitious, doomed Canadian series.
I chose to employ a radical design departure from the original, opting for a massive spherical structure composed of mushroom-like features (analog for spores, spreading the human race among the stars, to other planets). Their supporting spires have a vague appearance of DNA strands.

My original remake design encompasses many thought-out features, such as: Massive, low power ion engines that accelerate the composite ship to relativistic velocities over the course of a century or so and then cruise. At some point it will rotate 180° and initiate another century long burn to decelerate the craft. This ends in an insertion orbit around its destination planet.
As designed, when it arrives, each ‘mushroom cap’ habitat will disengage from it’s support structure, and make planetfall. Descending on massive nuclear/chemical landing rockets lower it to the ground. Habitats will provide a protective environment from which human civilizations will expand outward from, onto the new home planet’s surface.
En route to its new home, gravity and power is provided by a tuned singularity at the vehicle’s center mass The singularity system distributes a natural gravity field and projecting a spherical protective magnetic field. Each habitat has a livable surface area of dozens of square miles, and can support several towns, farms, villages and cities. Every habitat has its own unique environment, representing the variety of Earth climates where humans thrive; to ensure maximum survivability of at least one colony on the new planet. Habitat landing sites would be far from each other, determined by similar climates on the host world.
